A Fylde coast furniture specialist is celebrating a year in it’s new home by signing a long term lease on its store.
BM Furniture Factory Outlet, which employs six, opened in Rigby Road, Blackpool, last May after its owners Bill Margerison and wife Lisa spotted the building going begging.
It is the sister company to BM Contract which supplies furniture and furnishings for holiday lodges, hotels pubs and show homes.
Mr Margerison said: “I spotted the building boarded up in September 2012.
“It used to be the former Kingston Mitsubishi and later the United Carpets store.
“It looked too nice to be derelict so I made some enquires and took a out the temporary lease. We opened on May 1.
“We only took it on temporarily to shift some stock but things have gone so well we have now signed a five year lease.”
He said they buy new furniture, liquidated and bankrupt stock, and cancelled orders which they can then sell at knock-down prices.
“We have been selling quality furniture and furnishing as a family for years,” he added.
“Our main premises for 25 years had been a mill in Oswaldtwistle, but to be honest it was too big for our purposes, so we decided to transfer the operations here.
“We specialise in the full range of furniture. By going to the manufacturers and getting cancelled orders we can offer our customers brand new, high street named products cheaper.
“It is all about being competitive and we think we have the edge.
“You can’t just sit and wait for reps to come to you, you have to be proactive.
“It is tough to be trading on the high street, but we work hard to stay ahead and offer the customers that little bit of magic.”
He added: “Our customers have been nationwide but now we have this outlet in Blackpool we have been getting more and more people in off the street.
“We have been overwhelmed by the response since we opened here.
“It is clearly what people here have been looking for.
“The minute we opened orders started pouring in.
“I thought it was just beginners luck, but the general public are not daft and if you provide the right prices they will buy.
“I could not ask for a more supportive place than Blackpool.”
