Steel firm's green boost

A THORNTON steel company is seeing its sales soar after entering into a lucrative contract with a successful green firm.

SSL, a specialist steel fabricator, which is based on Red Marsh Industrial Estate, has formed a partnership with Shropshire-based green technology firm Maxsys to provide it with bespoke magnetic units.

A boom in environmentally-friendly products has helped bosses at SSL boost sales and they have now become the sole provider of the boiler surrounds to Maxsys.

The company manufactures fuel systems which reduce the carbon footprint of firms using the products.

SSL works closely with Maxsys to ensure its technology on paper is turned into a high quality end product.

Margaret Clarkson, managing director of SSL, explained: "We have been producing steel cabinets on the estate for more than 20 years and have been working with Maxsys since the start of our business.

"It is an exciting time to be involved with green technology as it is a huge growth area within the UK.

"We mainly deal on a business to business level and manufacture the steel fabrication for the exact specifications of the company.

"We have had to turn away business where people see products in catalogues and ask us to reproduce it for them.

"Maxsys is an excellent company to be involved with as their green technology is leading the way in the UK's drive to become more green."

The Telford-based company markets devices which help improve combustion in boilers and other heating systems.

Paul Finnegan, commercial director of Maxsys, said: "We are in the midst of our busiest time to date, with companies across Europe showing interest in the Maxsys Fuel Systems.

"Persuading companies to invest in green technology today is like pushing at an open door.

"The Maxsys Fuel Systems have been successfully adopted across a wide range of sectors and the device typically provides payback in less than two years."

"Since companies have caught on to the fact that improving energy efficiency is a smart way of saving money, investment in green tech is only likely to grow."
