Blackpool has been named as one of the UK’s 10 best rated destinations by online travel site TripAdvisor.
The resort is in sixth place behind the likes of London and Liverpool, but ahead of York and Belfast.
The rating has been revealed as part of the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards for Destinations, based on the reviews and opinions which travellers post online.
Alan Cavill, Blackpool Council’s assistant chief executive, said: “We already know Blackpool is a fantastic place to visit but it’s great to be recognised by the people who come here on holiday, too.
“Being named as one of the top 10 locations in the UK puts us in the same company as some great cities and resorts.
“The investment that’s been put in over the last few years is having a real impact on how much tourists enjoy Blackpool. The regenerated Promenade, along with huge improvements to The Tower, a brand new, efficient tram service and the new Comedy Carpet are making us more modern and more family friendly.
“We’re seeing the results, too. More people who come to Blackpool tell us that they’ve had a good time and people continue to return again and again.”
Last year, Blackpool failed to make the top 10.
And Tony Urmson, a director of Yes Hotels, which represents 232 hotels in Blackpool, said he believed the resort’s inclusion this year reflected improved standards in accommodation.
He said: “Blackpool is good value for money and accommodation standards are rising.
“There are properties I went to see three years ago which would barely get one star, but will now easily get three or four stars.
“Hoteliers do take notice of the reviews on TripAdvisor. For example, I know one who got comments that the stairs were too steep and this winter they have ripped them out and changed them.”
