Pub bosses in Poulton today called on Gazette readers to help make an important contribution to a brand new venue for the town – by helping to choose a name.
Pub giant JD Wetherspoon is set to open a new pub in Poulton on the site of the former Edge premises in Hardhorn Road.
But as things stand, the new venue is without a name.
Wetherspoons bosses have whittled the choice down to five possibilities and now want readers to cast their vote.
The choices are The Wheatsheaf Inn; The Poulton Elk; The Old Elk; The Hundred of Amounderness and The Tessie Oshea.
All the names have historic links to the area.
Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said: “We take great pride in the names of our pubs, with the aim of naming each of our pubs after the former use of the building or a historic figure or event connected to the town where the pub is opening.
“We are looking forward to opening in Poulton and would be delighted if Gazette readers would help us choose a name from the five suggested names.”
The Wetherspoon chain is to spend £1m redeveloping the neglected Edge premises, which has stood empty for two years.
It hopes to create between 45 and 50 jobs by moving into the former Edge premises.
Wetherspoons has 880 pubsinthe UK and has sub mitted plans to revamp the exterior of the two-storey Edge building as part of its ambitious proposals. No opening date has yet been set.
Votes can be emailed to Gazette News Editor Matthew Squires at firstname.lastname@example.org.
