IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas across the Fylde coast.

Champion ice skaters Natalia Pestova and Alexei Kislitsyn showed budding ice dancers how it’s done as they opened their rink in The Piazza, Lytham.

Twins Hattie and Bo Madden, eight, gave the former Russian champions a run for their money when they visited the attraction, surrounded by the town’s Christmas lights and tree.

Mum Jo, of Islay Road, Lytham, said: “It’s great for Lytham, it gives a real sense of community and makes it festive.”

Hattie added: “It looks beautiful and Christmassy.”

Fylde Mayor, Coun Heather Speak, joined a crowd of families and shoppers to open the attraction on Saturday afternoon.

The rink has returned to the town again thanks to Ms Pestova and Mr Kislitsyn, both skating instructors at Blackpool Ice Arena, who hope it will give the town a Christmas boost.

Ms Pestova said: “We do it for families, to bring people together in the town.

“It’s nice to see people out and skating, it’s nice to bring happiness to the area.”

Shoppers and residents said the rink and festive decorations added sparkle to the town centre and hoped it would help boost trade.

Melanie Farman, 40, and daughter Annabelle, seven, from Cleveland Road, Lytham, were also enjoying the rink.

Mrs Farman said: “It’s good for businesses and families, something they can do together.

“We’re really lucky we’ve got all this in the area.”

Annabelle added: “It’s a bit difficult to stay on your feet but it’s really good.”

Natalie Forrest, 35, from Lytham, said she thought the attraction and Christmas lights brightened up the town centre.

She said: “It does make you feel Christmassy, it wasn’t quite the same when we didn’t have a rink.

“I’m sure it helps businesses too, it brings people in and makes it a nicer atmosphere.”
