A horse mad graduate is in the running to win a national award after excelling in all things equine.
Katie Hest, who works at Supplement Solutions, in Great Eccleston, has been named as one of the UK’s star employees in the equine industry - and could find herself crowned later this month with the title.
Katie, 24, has just been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Employee of the Year awards organised by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) after helping horse owners improve the health of their animals.
More than 200,000 people working in the UK horse industry were eligible to compete for the honour, but Katie is one of just a small handful of nominees to have made the short-list.
Katie said: “It’s really nice to get that kind of recognition.
“As far as I’m concerned I’ve not done anything over and above what’s expected of me but my manager thinks I have.”
Supplement Solutions based on The Weind supplies customers with nutritional feeds and preparations to treat horse conditions ranging from poor digestion to problems with hooves and joints.
Katie added: “I enjoy speaking to customers who have problems with their horses, then they come back later and say the advice was fantastic and they’re really grateful.
“We get a lot of positive feedback from customers.”
A keen horse rider from an early age, she has for three years been the proud owner of Murphy, a 20-year-old Irish cob.
The pair have taken part and gathered rosettes in various local dressage and show-jumping events.
The BETA awards - which regularly attract over 4,000 nominations - will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on February 16 at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
Katie will then learn if she has led the field, and won a luxury weekend break for two in London.
