A NEW store has filled an empty space on Blackpool’s high street.
That’s Entertainment, which has opened its doors on Church Street, sells music, films and video games and replaces Currys.
Its Blackpool store takes the number of branches the retailer has nationwide to 34 and bosses say they chose the resort as they consider it to have a “bright future”.
Darryll King, area manager in the store, said: “It has been a long wait, we had been looking to come to Blackpool for a long time.
“Many of our staff who work here have a long history of retail in the town but it was a case of finding the right unit in Blackpool.
“Blackpool is still very competitive to find a unit which is not only in the right location but also meets our criteria about size and frontage impact.”
The store covers three floors of the vast property and is now open for business.
Mr King added: “We are confident there is still a bright future for high street retailing.
“When we opened there was a queue of people waiting at the door, and business has been very brisk so far.”
The premises was renovated by building consultancy Knight Frank in a deal worth £80,000.
James Ingle, surveyor at Knight Frank, said: “At the start of the works, it was clear the property had not received any maintenance and therefore it was a challenging refurbishment with the budget we had to work with”.
“The unit is now in an excellent condition.”
