Traders today told how they have discovered a new lease of life after moving out of a doomed shopping precinct.
Shops in Poulton’s Market Hall were told by owners Dransfield Properties in January the facility would shut down in July and they would have to move out.
Now Alison Coldwell, owner of Happy Feet chiropodists, has decided to find a new home for her shop before the July deadline, and moved into The Mewes, on Breck Road.
She said: “I’m happy I did this and that I’m here.
“I’ve spent quite a bit of money and it does look very professional and nice, but I need customers.
“We are all trying to help each other because there was a time when I thought we would have to close down altogether.”
Dransfield has not released plans about the future of Market Hall, but other traders have taken it upon themselves to secure new shops in advance of the deadline.
Janet Cassidy, owner of Joseph Franks hairdressers, has taken on two new members of staff since she moved into her new shop on Breck Road, Poulton.
She added: “I’ve been lucky enough to get a shop and have had lots of support.
“Sometimes things happen for a reason and you think it’s the end of the world, but this has worked out for the best and the support from the people of Poulton has been phenomenal.
“I will miss everybody in the Market Hall because it was like a family and this is a bit daunting, but we are bigger and taking on more staff.”
