A new bus service is being launched today to link Blackpool with Manchester and the Trafford Centre.
Classic Bus North West will run the service – a 90 minute journey down the M55, M6 and M61 motorways – using Mercedes bendy-buses, which they have named the Red Rockets.
Philip Higgs, boss of Classic Bus, said: “The new express service will certainly be cheaper than the petrol in your car.
“Yes, it opens up shopping trips to the Trafford Centre and Manchester which may take some trade away from Blackpool, but it will also open up the job market in Manchester to residents in the resort.
“However, we expect to bring more people to Blackpool. We are already offering an exclusive deal with Blackpool Pleasure Beach for a Red Rocket and wristband offer which has been promoted in the Manchester area and Marketing Blackpool are working with us to consider joint initiatives in the Manchester area”.
The standard day return fare will be £10 with discounts for students and senior citizens.
The winter timetable offers up to eight departures a day with buses from Blackpool’s coach park off Central Drive calling at the Trafford Centre on the way to Manchester.
