Mum of three’s new challenge

A LYTHAM mum of three is about to realise her childhood dream by opening a designer children’s clothing, accessories and gift shop in the town.

As a young child Saffron Milligan would visit the resort on day trips from her home in Blackburn and decided as a five-year-old that she’d love to one day have a business there.

“I can’t believe that I’m actually about to achieve that goal,” she said.

She will open the doors at her new children’s clothes store, Little Emporium, on Thursday.

Saffron first started work in retail at the age of 14 as a Saturday girl at Benetton, before working at Emporio Armani in Manchester while studying at University. After graduating, she lived and worked in PR and marketing in the fashion industry in London.

In 2002, she relocated back to her Lancastrian routes and worked as European marketing manager for sportswear giant Reebok for five-and-a-half years.

Mrs Milligan, 35, said: “I loved working within the corporate world at Reebok and travelling across Europe and America, I learned so much which is proving invaluable today.

“But when my husband and I started our family, my priorities changed and being at home near to them is now key. The children are growing so quickly and I want to be there to enjoy these special times.

“I am now mixing the experience gained in the professional work place, and putting it into something I love, which is children and children’s clothing.

“The shop is called Little Emporium because that’s what I hope it will be – a one stop shopping experience for children, with designer clothes, inspiring gifts and beautiful accessories for new born babies to 10-year-olds.’

The store, on Park Street, is designed to be reminiscent of a children’s bedroom and dressing up room and will stock clothes by Paul Smith Junior, Ralph Lauren, Diesel, Monna Lisa, Oilily among other brands.

Saffron added: “Many of the brands I’ll be stocking aren’t available anywhere else in the area – so no more stressful shopping trips to Manchester with the kids in tow necessary!

“I’ve even got two comfy chairs for the daddies to relax in too!”

Saffron left Reebok two years ago and now has three children – Maisie Bo, five, Poppy, two, and Monty, seven months.

“When the shop unit became available in June, it was at a strange crossroads in my life,” she added. “Now I have my children I wanted to find a better work life balance. Running my own business is new to me and it is quite daunting, but I’ve put a lot of research and hard work into it and I’m loving it.”
