Carleton’s Leaping Fish chip shop is about to be re-launched by its new owners as Bellamy’s Fish Bar.
The shop on Poulton Road has been bought by Mark and Michele Bellamy who have owned the nearby Great Eccleston Fish Bar for nine years.
Mark is a third generation chippie and grew up from the age of five helping out in his father’s chip shop in St Anne’s as well as his grandfather’s shop in Blackpool, doing everything from peeling potatoes to working on the counter.
Under the couple’s ownership, the name will be changed to Bellamy’s Fish Bar and will undergo a refurbishment.
Working with Arlene Marquis, Relationship Manager at NatWest in Preston, the couple obtained a loan of £35,000 as part of the bank’s participation in the Government’s Funding for Lending Scheme to help them to buy the business.
The couple is committed to excellent customer service, consistently high-quality fish and chips, buying fresh where possible and even serving up their own homemade steak puddings and fishcakes.
Mark said: “I’d tried to buy the business three years ago, but the timing was now right to take on a second shop and Arlene’s help has been invaluable.
“We have worked with Arlene at NatWest for seven years and she’s always been helpful.”
Arlene Marquis from NatWest said: “Here at NatWest we are committed to supporting small, family-run businesses like this.
“We’re delighted to have helped in funding another branch of Bellamy’s Fish Bar and look forward to continued growth and success.”
