A Lytham St Annes insurance company has revealed it has handled more than 200 claims in February after unprecedented storms and bad weather on the Fylde coast.
It’s the first time in over 40 years of trading that Guy Penn and Company Ltd on St David’s Road South in Lytham St Annes has handled so many claims in just one month.
While the Fylde coast is no stranger to bad weather, this year’s extremes have re-written the region’s insurance record books.
For Guy Penn and Company Ltd, Curtis Dowman said: “I’ve never known anything like it. The weather has been horrendous.
“People wince at times like this when I tell them I’m in insurance. They think we must dread all the claims. But, actually, nothing could be further for the truth. We’ll all remember the storms in February 2014 for many years to come. And here at Guy Penn we’ll remember it because it gave us a chance to show more customers than ever before what we’re made of. We demonstrated to over 200 of them how we can help them in their hour of need.”
As claims pouring in, the team even took time out to rescue a cat which had been left by its owners after a hasty departure from storm-damaged property.
Curtis explained: “The phones were red hot. But the cat needed our help too.
“To help the owners we arranged the cat to be rescued and housed in a local cattery with the compliments of the insurer. It’s just one of those things little things we could do to make life a little easier for the claimant.”
With 36 staff, Guy Penn and Company offers a broad range of insurance services including commercial and personal insurance along with risk management.
It was founded in 1971 by Guy Penn, with managing director Nicholas Martin joining in 1978 and Curtis in 1992. In 2012 two further directors joined, Keirson James and Sara Kerr.
