A Blackpool businessman has been named regional entrepreneur of the year in a top national awards.
Executive chairman of medical device pioneers CME Medical, Stephen Thorpe has been announced as Entrepreneur of the Year (in the category of Business Products and Services) in the Ernst and Young North of England Entrepreneur Of The Year.
CME Medical – which employs 76 – provides specialist infusion products that are used for pain management, palliative care, oncology and nutrition as well as a growing range of clinical applications.
Founded in 2001 by Mr Thorpe, CME Medical has become a leader in this market, distributing portable infusion products to more than 300 NHS trusts, as well as private hospitals, homecare providers and GP surgeries across the UK and Ireland.
Now based in purpose-built premises at Kincraig Business Park, CME Medical also boasts a multi-skilled support network and specialist salesforce operating across the UK and Ireland.
Mr Thorpe (pictured) said: “I was honoured to receive this award, not just for myself but on behalf of the entire company. It’s a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our team both here in Blackpool and across the UK.
“This level of teamwork, and a dedication to developing an impressive portfolio of medical devices for patients in hospitals and in the community, has seen our turnover grow to £14m.
