POLITICIANS swapped Parliament for the Promenade to hand out advice to holidaymakers.

Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden and Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard were at the resort’s Tourism Information Centre yesterday to launch English Tourism Week.

Residents are also being urged to make the most of the attractions on their doorstep during the week which ends on March 24.

Offers include a 50 per cent discount at Blackpool Zoo and Sandcastle Waterpark upon proof of address, while the Resort Pass has also been launched giving admission to eight attractions.

Mr Marsden said: “This year’s English Tourism Week helps Blackpool showcase not just to visitors but also to our own residents the town’s striking new architecture and sights alongside traditional attractions such as The Tower, Winter Gardens and Pleasure Beach now renewed for the 21st century.”

Mr Maynard said: “It can be very easy when you live in a holiday destination to forget why so many people visit year in, year out.

“Blackpool has so much to offer everyone, visitors and residents alike, and I fully support this initiative to ensure everyone gets the best out of the resort.”

Marketing Blackpool managing director Natalie Wyatt said residents had every right to enjoy the same benefits as visitors.

She said: “Blackpool thrives on tourism but it is sometimes forgotten that for the resort to be the huge success it is, thousands of dedicated and loyal local residents work in that industry to ensure visitors have a memorable experience.”

English Tourism Week sees events take place across the country to raise awareness of the importance of tourism to local and national economies.
