A BLACKPOOL electrical store is relocating to make way for redevelopment in the resort’s town centre.

Apollo revealed it is moving from its current site on Talbot Road to premises on Vicarage Lane, Marton in the spring.

The retailer, which employs 12 people, is to take over the former Woodman Centre.

Apollo sales manager Anthony Gwilliam told The Gazette: “Everyone at Apollo is excited about the move and we are delighted to be staying in Blackpool which has been our home for 20 years.

“We are now part of the family-owned Hughes Electrical Group and employ 12 staff.

“If all goes to plan we will complete the move in the spring and look forward to welcoming all customers into our new premises which will offer a very pleasant shopping environment, with a large range of electrical products.

“Despite reports about the challenges facing the electrical retail industry, we are convinced those companies that continually invest to provide top quality customer service combined with an excellent product range will succeed.”

Apollo’s Talbot Road site is part of the Talbot Gateway development zone where work has now started on new council offices and a new Sainsbury’s supermarket.

As part of the development it is proposed to build a petrol station on the Apollo site, which will be part of the Sainsbury’s store.

Coun Gary Coleman, cabinet member for regeneration and urban development on Blackpool Council, said: “I’m sure Apollo will prove to be a popular addition to Vicarage Lane where there’s already a host of successful shops and businesses.

“Sainsbury’s has planning permission for a petrol station on this site opposite their new store. In a year’s time this area will be completely transformed.”
