ESTATE agents have given a mixed response to Labour’s plans to kick-start the economy.
Shadow chancellor Ed Balls has called for 100,000 new affordable homes and a two-year stamp duty holiday for first-time buyers.
And Justin Allitt, director of Allitt Estate Agents, welcomed the announcement.
He said: “There’s a need for more social housing and as a community we will certainly benefit.
“I have been calling for a stamp duty holiday for more than a year and this will boost the economy.
But Hayley Claber, of Oyston’s Estate Agents, says Mr Balls’ plan would not work.
She added: “It would be a good idea but I don’t think the answer is to build more homes.
“There are a lot of affordable homes and they should be helping first time buyers by helping them lend money.”
