Controversial plans for 579 new homes in Marton were passed by Blackpool’s planning committee.
Kensington Developments plans to build 80 flats, 230 terraced houses, 165 semi-detached houses and 104 detached houses at land off Moss House Road.
The plan had been earmarked for approval by the council’s planning officers.
Speaking to The Gazette after the meeting Coun David Owen, who chairs the committee, said: “It is an important site in the south of Blackpool.
“We’re clearly designated as an authority to find quality housing for people and that fits very well into our view of the future.
A plan for 46 new homes at the former TVR factory in Bristol Avenue, Bispham, was turned down by the committee.
