NEW plans have been submitted to transform a former opticians into a restaurant and bar.
The planning application has been submitted just days after Portofinos owner Orlando Perracca put forward plans to open a new boutique hotel and restaurant on Lytham’s Dicconson Terrace.
The new application in the building next door, would see the former Hardwick’s opticians and the beauty salon above, which both shut down earlier this year, converted, creating seven full-time jobs.
But the vice chairman for Lytham Business Partnership says he does not believe another nightspot is a good idea for the town.
Cafe owner Robert Silverwood added: “I don’t agree with this application, it’s overkill.
“This isn’t going to bring much to the town at all, I think it actually takes something away from the existing businesses.”
Acting as agent for the developer, Joseph Boniface from Joseph Boniface Architects said it would be a fantastic addition.
He added: “The new restaurant will create a wonderful and comfortable, family-friendly environment to enjoy a meal and a drink in the beautiful listed building. There is also the added bonus of an outside seating area proposed to enjoy the afternoon sunshine over-looking the square.”
