PLANS have been revealed for a new housing development on the edge of Blackpool.

If the scheme goes ahead, it will see 146 homes built on land off Cropper Road, Westby, along with offices, a foodstore, children’s playground and open space.

Kensington Developments has submitted plans to Fylde Council for land at the rear of Moss Farm adjoining Whitehills business park.

Kensington managing director Denley Barrow said the proposals represented much-needed investment.

He said: “The mixed use proposal includes over 100,000 square feet of new offices and employment premises together with 146 new homes, a local foodstore, children’s play space, cycleways, footpaths and landscaped public open space.

“The scheme represents a major investment by a private company within the area and is consistent with the council’s requirements for employment land and housing development.

“A decision is anticipated on the application in February 2013, with the initial works on the development expected to start before the end of the year.

“Growth is fundamental to the successful economic recovery of our area and development has a huge role to play creating future job opportunities and investment in local businesses.”

John Westmoreland, secretary of the Fylde branch of the Council for the Protection for Rural England, said they were unlikely to object to the plan.

He added: “In general we are supportive of development around Whitehills as we feel it is more appropriate than building in the open countryside.”

Redrow Homes is currently building 63 homes on land at Hollywood Nurseries off Whitehills Road, Westby.

Kensington already has planning permission for 666 homes on Marton Moss – 584 on Moss House Road and 83 at Runnell Farm, off Chapel Road.
