The North West Labour Party (NWLP) will be returning to Blackpool for its annual conference in November 2014, tourism bosses have announced.

This is the fourth year the NWLP has headed to the resort and up to a thousand delegates and visitors are expected to attend the two-day event.

The 2014 conference will be held at Blackpool’s Imperial Hotel – viewed by many as the heartland of British party politics having hosted every British Prime Minister since Winston Churchill.

VisitBlackpool tourism manager Mandy Tythe-McCallum said she is delighted to be welcoming the party back.

She added: “The fact the NWLP is returning for its fourth year in Blackpool is a real nod of approval to the resort because it is an important conference on our business calendar.

“We work incredibly hard to attract conference and event organisers, and political events such as the North West Labour Party annual conference are incredibly important to us.”

Business tourism in Blackpool represents an average of £44 million in economic benefit to businesses in the resort each year.

In recent years Blackpool has undergone a major £250m investment to regenerate the resort, including part restoration of the historic Winter Gardens complex.

Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, added: “This is great news for Blackpool.

“To welcome up to a thousand delegates over a two-day period is a major financial boost into the local economy and it also represents an opportunity to showcase our resort.”

The NWLP have already visited the resort for its conference for the last three years.

A Labour North West spokesman said: “We’re delighted to be returning to Blackpool once again for our annual regional conference.

“Delegates always have a fantastic time here.”

It’s a great opportunity for members and activists to get involved with the Labour campaign ahead of the Election.
