Blackpool’s Hilton Hotel has been taken off the market after its owners failed to agree any deals for its sale.
The landmark building had been offered for a guide price of £8.5m by the Hilton Worldwide Group as it said it was looking to pursue other opportunities in a far-reaching review of the company’s business.
But after three months the 274-room hotel is no longer being advertised for sale and the company says it will be business as usual and the jobs of the 220 staff will continue.
A Hilton Worldwide spokesman said: “Hilton Blackpool was marketed for sale earlier this year as part of our ongoing portfolio review.
“No deal was agreed during this period and we are no longer actively seeking a buyer for the property.
“The team continue to welcome guests to the hotel for the foreseeable future.”
The advert for the North Promenade hotel via CBRE Hotels stated: “The hotel has 11 multi-purpose meeting rooms totalling more than 1,800m² of meeting space including a function room for up to 800 attendees which can accommodate many of the national and international events and conferences that are hosted annually in Blackpool.”
At the time the spokesman said: “Hilton Worldwide has taken this difficult decision in order to pursue other opportunities that best fit our overall business strategy.”
North Shore hotelier Mick Grewcock who runs the Queens Mansions and Burbage Lodge apartments said: “I am delighted Hilton have decided to keep faith with Blackpool. Let’s hope they can invest in this prominent hotel. The staff there work so hard.
“Some of our hotels need bringing up to date, they are 20 years behind the times when it comes the guest bedrooms.
“Some of the public areas are great but we need more four and five star accommodation if we are to win back the big conferences that Blackpool needs.”
The Hilton opened in 1982 as The Pembroke alongside the Derby Baths, which were later bulldozed. At that time it was owned by the Birmingham-based Metropole Group.
