A Blackpool bar owner is hoping to put smiles back on the faces of revellers after transforming a well known venue.

Darren Boulton who ran the Bierkellar on the Prom has given the place a total revamp and a change of name to make Jokerz more family friendly and a venue for regular comedy nights.

The Bierkellar was popular with stags and hens with its rough and ready mixture of beer and music, but Mr Boulton said it was time for a change.

He said: “Since the Frog and Bucket closed in Preston there has been a huge gap in the comedy circuit in this area which we are looking to fill.

“Jokerz will be providing some great entertainment and give something back to community especially midweek.

“We will be hosting local showcases with singers and comedy and we will be having some big events and big names coming up.”

The venue will be family friendly during the day and aims to support the community and businesses in the resort.

He said they would also have music nights and on Saturday there is a Stop the Stigma dance music night to support mental health.

The opening might featured DJ Key and Miss Blackpool was on hand to perform the official opening.

He said: “It was really nice to see Miss Blackpool, she is such a lovely personality and I would like tot thank her for coming along.

“We have a great team behind Jokerz and I am really looking forward to the new season in Blackpool.”

Events manager Brad Owen said The Bierkellar was what it was, but now the venue is much more stylish in red and black and more of a family bar.

He said: “Daren has been in the business for 25 years and knows his stuff.

“It is really exciting and we have big plans for the entertainment. Part of this will be to work closely with the rest of the business community to support Blackpool.”
