A Fylde coast car repairs firm is in top gear for growth after a £150,000 expansion.

Crossley’s Garage has opened a new unit at Poulton Industrial Estate as it aims to take on more insurance work.

The firm owned by Martin Cross has had a base at Common Edge Road, Blackpool, since 2002 but has now opened its second bodyshop with targets of expanding its business from a 15 to 50 car operation.

And the accident repair company, which currently employs nine, hopes to be able to employ up to 30 when growth takes off.

Mr Cross said he had been planning the expansion for the past five years and made his move as the country comes out of recession.

He said: “When I first started the business 17 years ago I had ambitions to grow and with the changing environment the time is now right to expand into new premises.

“I started as an apprentice at Moorland Motors and then at Mercedes Benz for eight years.

“I then started out on my own 18 years ago at Robson Way, near Collegiate School, in a little lock-up before moving to Common Edge Road.

“We are all coming out of the recession now and people have a lot more money to spend and people are having their cars repaired.

“It’s a £150,000 investment in the new bodyshop with all the latest equipment and two new spray booths one for commercial and one for cars, along with the latest colour mixing and matching systems.

“I’m confident we will continue to grow from our current size employing nine operatives to a staff of 20 to 30.”

He said the new site would provide insurers, work providers, trade and retail customers with a one-stop service, including accident repair, alloy wheel and smart repair, tyres and servicing.

Martin was delighted to have the new premises opened by Blackpool light-middleweight boxer Brian “The Lion” Rose, who his company sponsor.

“I have sponsored Brian for three yeas now. I have always followed boxing and I will be there for his next fight which is coming up on February 14 at the Winter Gardens. We were very pleased when he agreed to open the new site at Poulton.”
