Government IT staff have today walked out of their offices to begin a two days of industrial action.

Workers at offices on Heyhouses Lane in Ansdell have gone on strike over plans by Hewlett Packard to cut 1,500 jobs.

The firm, which has contracts with several government departments including one with the Department for Work and Pensions, has already served some staff with compulsory redundancy notices, according to the PCS union.

The company’s plans involve halving the workforce at its Sheffield site and cutting staff from other offices, including Ansdell.
