A Blackpool IT business has been signed up to help DJ Chris Evans raise money for a national charity.
Infinium IT, which has its offices at Faraday Way, Bispham, is to provide wi-fi networks for more than 50,000 people visiting the Radio 2 star’s car festivals.
CarFest was created in 2012 by the celebrity as a means to raise money for BBC Children in Need and to bring all his favourite things together in one family friendly festival – cars, music and food,
Infinium IT will be installing and providing wi-fi public networks for the two events this year, CarFest North at Oulton Park in Cheshire and CarFest South at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire, both of which will be held in August.
Last year CarFest raised nearly £1m for BBC Children in Need.
Infinium IT will help to raise the £1.5m hoped for in 2013 by donating all of its fi-fi subscriptions during the festivals to the charity.
It hopes that this will be in the region of £60,000.
The wi-fi business will also be providing internet cafes at both sites and secure business wi-fi networks for the event organiser and companies trading at this year’s festival.
Peter Miles, Infinium IT’s managing director said: “As an avid Radio 2 Breakfast show fan I listened with interest as the festival unfolded on the radio. And after seeing what a success it had been I wrote to Chris Evans saying we would love to be involved if they did it again, and would love to provide our wi-fi services.
“As it is a charity event we offered to provide our services free-of-charge and we’ve also donated two wi-fi Small Business packages worth a total of £10,000 to the public auction.
“It’s great for us to be involved in a project of this size as we continue to carve out a great reputation for the services we provide in the leisure and hospitality industry.”
CarFest South will take place from Friday,August 23 to Sunday, August 25, at Laverstoke Park Farm, the home of former Formula 1 Champion Jody Scheckter and his organic food brand.
The Oulton Park Race Circuit in Cheshire will be the venue for CarFest North 2013, with the event taking place from August 2 to August 4.
Chris is promising flat-out action a live music line-up on Friday evening headlined by chart-toppers Texas at both venues.
And he will be broadcasting live on BBC Radio 2.
He said: “CarFest last year was brilliant – kids, mums, dads, grandparents all had a fabulous time.”
