Inenco takes lead on green industry

ENERGY giant Inenco is to host a UK summit aimed at delivering a carbon neutral economy.

The St Annes-based firm will host the conference in London at the end of the month.

It will use the event to promote its Challenge 2050 programme, which aims to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of major companies.

The conference will include contributions from energy producers, major business consumers, and parliamentarians from both houses, but will focus primarily on generating debate.

Amongst the companies taking part in the debates are the Spirit Group, General Healthcare, Northern Foods and the UK Energy Research Centre.

Michael Abbott, deputy managing director of Inenco said: "We have to walk a fine line to the future, balancing carbon control with economic development, environmental management and the way that we have done business for many years.

"It is only by talking together and finding the approach that meets our joint objectives that positive action will be taken.

"We cannot ignore the fact the UK is a small part of the wider global picture, but we have the opportunity to demonstrate how cutting carbon emissions can be done without damaging competitiveness."

The company, which employs more than 100 people at its base on St Andrews Road South, says it wants to spearhead the challenge for major UK firms in going green.

It aims to cut emissions by up to 80 per cent by 2050.

Mr Abbott said: "This is only the start of a longer process of dialogue between major UK companies to cut down on their carbon footprint.

"Our position as independent consultants allows us to see the number of organisations making strides towards low carbon solutions.

"If this momentum can be put behind an agreed set of objectives then we believe that rapid and sustained progress is possible."

Inenco, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, is the UK's leading provider of energy and overhead cost control to industrial, commercial and retail customers, such as BHS, Kellogg's, JP Morgan Chase and the Spirit Group.

Last year the firm increased its profits by 40 per cent and

announced a major expansion plan on the Fylde.
