Housing association wins award

MAKING some of Blackpool's most deprived areas a better place to live has landed a housing association with a major award.

Blackpool Coastal Housing has picked up the Local People, Local Jobs Awards at the North West Construction Awards 2009.

Judges gave the gong to the association after it demonstrated a commitment to working with Blackpool Build Up in offering people over the age of 24 the chance to learn new skills in plastering, brickwork and other trades.

This latest accolade for Blackpool Coastal Housing and partners Connaught Partnerships, BAAS, HT Forrest, Mears and Read and Errington follows the success in winning the Partnering Scheme of the Year award at the prestigious Housing Excellence Awards held at the Palace Hotel in Manchester.

Success

Cyril Holland, Blackpool Coastal Housing Director of Property Services, said: "The success in winning this award is vindication of the partners working together in association with Blackpool Build Up to demonstrate a lasting commitment to providing job and learning opportunities for local people.

"Following in such quick succession to the Housing Excellence awards win is tremendous news and further demonstrates the excellent progress being made by the partnership."

Blackpool Coastal Housing and its partners are delivering an 86m home improvement programme over a five-year period.
