You want five stars? We got five stars! One Blackpool holiday accommodation group is having a triple celebration today after being awarded another five star rating for its apartments.

Mick Grewcock, from the Burbage Holiday Group, said Blackpool’s reputation had taken a few hits recently but there was plenty of good news in the resort and this showed exactly what it could offer.

He said the latest award meant that Blackpool had the only five star apartments on the English coast with his and the Beach House in Bispham.

He said: “Eastbourne has the only five star hotel but we have five, five star apartments right here in Blackpool – more than anywhere else on the English coast. It’s a triple celebration for us because we have been given two 100 per cent ratings on Trip Advisor”

The group, which held an open day to celebrate with the mayor, Coun Eddie Collett and representatives from Marketing Blackpool and Marketing Lancashire present, has two locations Queen’s Mansions and Burbage Lodge on Queen’s Promenade, North Shore.

Mick and his partner Sheila bought Queen’s Mansions ten years ago and rebuilt and refurbished the apartments over the years.

He said the trick was to keep reinvesting in the business to improve standards and they are planning a £50,000 revamp of the front of Burbage Lodge this coming winter.

“You hear these bad stories about the state of some Blackpool hotels and we have had the sad news last week that the Hilton is up for sale, so this is a little bit of good news for the business.”

He said that both locations are very busy with bookings all the way through the summer.

“We have had people in from Saudi and Norway and we are packed. Eighty per cent of our bookings are done on line so its very important to have a good reputation.

“Not everyone wants to stay in a hotel so our apartments are very popular. We are really busy when the World Dance Championships are on at the Winter Gardens.

“The people who go to that come to us because they need their own space and facilities – they stay ten days so need washing machines and dishwashers.”
