Glowing tributes to winning ways

A GREEN energy firm which helps cut costs and power needs is the winner of The Gazette’s Local Business Accelerators competition.
Whitehills Business Park-based-based Glow Greener emerged the victorious business after judges sifted through applications from all over the Fylde coast.
Judges Iain Hawkins of Merlin, Howard Lewis of the Blackpool Business Leadership Group, and Hugh Evans of the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Trade awarded the overall prize to the environmental lighting firm.
They will now act as mentors to the firm.
Glow Greener works primarily in the commercial sector, offering a range of lighting suitable for all areas of commerce – achieving financial savings in excess of 50 per cent in many cases.
The firm has already worked in offices, warehouses, car parks, retail outlets, schools and entertainment venues to help owners cut their lighting bills in an environmentally-friendly manner.
Glow Greener owner Eddie Robertson said: “I’m absolutely delighted. We’ve put a lot of effort into moving the business forward and making people aware of our ways of saving money.
“With the support of the Carbon Trust, funding has been available to help businesses have brand new lighting installed.
“From our point of view, we’ve worked very hard to push the business forward.”
In his application to the competition, Mr Robertson wrote: “As a relatively young business our experiences are growing, but we consider ourselves very keen to learn from the experiences of other successful businesses.”
Later in the year, one business will go on to be crowned the national Local Business Accelerators winner and receive mentoring from the campaign’s national ambassador Deborah Meaden, of Dragon’s Den.
Backed by high profile figures including the Prime Minster and the CBI’s John Cridland, the campaign has seen the local newspaper industry come together to deliver a shot in the arm for business.
Stephen Welton, Business Growth Fund chief executive, said: “Clearly economic conditions continue to be challenging; but we need businesses to be considering the opportunities and focusing on what they can influence.”
The Business Growth Fund has contributed to Local Business Accelerators by offering a series of free half-day workshop sessions at its regional centres to winning businesses.
