The team at Blackpool Airport’s Hangar Three have sent out invitations to flying clubs and flying schools around the country for Sunday by the seaside to show that the airport is still open.

Victoria English from Hangar Three said: “It is very exciting. We want to promote the airport, gain more business and make it a busy airport once more“It is amazing how many people around the country still think it is closed so we want to show we are open for business.

“All the aircraft will be parked on our apron, at Westair and if required on the general aviation parking by the college.”

She said the event was not open to the public for safety reasons but she expected aircraft spotters would gather by the airfield fence near Morrison's to get a view of the many aeroplanes visiting.

She added: “We have got more than 20 coming so far and are expecting more.

“We will be giving them fish and chips and a free bus ride to the Pleasure Beach.”
