A BLACKPOOL lighting company responsible for some of the most grand designs in hotels throughout the world is celebrating its 65th year of trading.
The family-run Chelsom Ltd designed and installed the elegant lighting found inside the prestigious Grosvenor Hotel in London.
The Clifton Road-based company, which began life as a retailer opposite the Metropole Hotel, is now a major supplier of every form of lighting in some of the world’s largest and most glamorous hotels.
Visitors to a host of the best hotels - from Rotterdam’s Hilton Hotel to the Hyatt Siesta Holiday Resort in Florida - can all see the Chelsom’s trademark, which has become a recognised brand around the world.
More than 50 staff still work at the Blackpool base, and managing director Robert Chelsom hopes there are many more years of business to come.
He told The Gazette: “Anyone from Blackpool who is travelling anywhere in the world and stays in a Sheraton or Hilton Hotel will be more than likely looking at lights made in Blackpool.
“I’m very proud of the business my parents started in 1947 and my son William has now been in the business for five years.
“We have moved from having one shop to distributing to Harrods, Fortnam and Mason and more recently Marks and Spencers.
“We have a huge network of companies in Blackpool we can rely on and a tremendous workforce.”
Their annual sale will be held on November 9, 10 and 11.
