A BUSINESS aimed at helping people find reputable manufacturers in China has been launched in Lytham.

Ivor Shapiro has launched Anglo European Group after taking advantage of regular trips to the economic powerhouse.

Mr Shapiro said: “We go to Hong Kong two to three times a year and we were asked to source a product.

“From that we’ve now set up a partnership and we are offering a free sourcing business for individuals or small companies who want to get rid of distributors from the supply chain.”

There are already many internet sites – such as Alibaba.com – which help people find factories abroad for manufacturing – but their success is also their downfall, according to Lytham resident Mr Shapiro.

He added: “If you look on these sites for a product you can get 500 results which is overwhelming – and probably 75 per cent of them are duff.

“You can end up no further on or in quite a bit of trouble.”

The firm has an office based in Guangzhou province where a business partner is based who scouts the factories and deals with their managing directors.

Mr Shapiro added: “We wanted someone in a base there so we can take people to meet the factory owners if they want to, and we can help book travel and hotels for them.

“What we’re offering is a no fee sourcing service – we make a small margin on the products ordered.

“We are doing the expensive part for people – the sourcing and talking to people.

“We’re offering to do the quality control that others may not be able to, the checking of factories and the inspection of the product before it is shipped.”

And despite only recently setting up in new premises on Bath Street in Lytham, the firm has already registered a $100,000 order.

Mr Shapiro added: “We’re just getting off the ground.”
