Up to 15 jobs are in store for Blackpool as a national retailer completes a £300,000 revamp of one of its stores.

Home Bargains has refurbished its Tyldesley Road store which is now almost twice the size of the shop on the original site.

The 17,000 sq ft store, which is to get its official opening on Saturday, will now be the company’s flagship in the area, it said.

With plans to open a further 50 stores across the UK in the next 12 months, the discount retailer is bucking current trends on the high street which has seen other household names such as Comet and Jessops close in Blackpool.

The discount retailer has now brought 200 jobs to the North West coast with the store. Home Bargains also has two other stores in the nearby areas of Talbot Road and Cherry Tree Road.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “Home Bargains is excited to be expanding the Tyldesley Road site and we look forward to welcoming customers to the new and improved store.

“It will give shoppers the chance to get their hands on even more of the latest bargains, including a great selection of homewares.

“Home Bargains also stocks a range of other top brand goods, including health and beauty, household, sweets and snacks, home style, and drinks and alcohol.

“Tyldesley Road continues to be an excellent location for us – we’re thrilled to be increasing the size of the store.”

Home Bargains is part of the TJ Morris group which was founded 30 years ago by Tom Morris, with its first store in Old Swan, Liverpool. It has 300 stores nationwide and employs 10,000.
