WHO says work experience doesn’t pay?
For Lytham student Rachel Coleridge-Smith is currently in Hanover, Germany, speaking to industry leaders from all over the world after landing herself a lucrative first job with a Preston flooring firm.
Events management student Rachel is set to go straight into her high-paced managerial role of business development manager after more than impressing Super-Click bosses when she worked for Stage9 Marketing and PR who count the flooring firm among their clients.
The former King Edward and Queen Mary School pupil, working towards an events management degree at the University of Central Lancashire, is now set to travel the world to spread the word about her firm’s innovative flooring product.
During her work experience, she was invited to attend an exhibition with Super-Click in Harrogate, where her professionalism and business acumen led her to the appointment.
Now, she finds herself in Hannover for the week-long Domotex exhibition – the world’s leading trade fair for floor coverings.
Miss Coleridge Smith, who currently works for the firm whenever her university timetable allows, said: “In my current position I am able to broaden my skills and I’m learning every single day.
“With graduate unemployment at an all time high, I realised I needed to prepare as much as possible to gain employment when I finish my degree, yet I’ve managed to land my dream job before I even graduate!”
Rachel, who started at the University in Central Lancashire in 2008, will take up her role full time in the summer of 2011 when her studies are at an end.
She is expected to attend further trade fairs for the company in Las Vegas and Shanghai in the near future.
