Expansion hope for casino group

THE new manager at Blackpool's biggest casino has told The Gazette she wants to expand the brand in the resort.

G-Casino will also open its doors 24 hours a day at the weekends from tomorrow.

Maxine Gibbons took over the South Promenade business three months ago after managing a string of casinos across the North West.

But she admits this is the biggest and the best casino she has worked with in her seven years in the trade.

Before taking the chips in Blackpool, Ms Gibbons also worked at casinos in Bolton and Manchester.

One of the first jobs the 38-year-old will oversee is the extension of the hours at the weekend along with the completion of a new facade at the front of the building.

The gambling industry is one of a few industries enjoying a purple patch during the recession with thousands of people choosing a night out at the casino.

G-Casino in Blackpool has thousands of members, an 80-seat restaurant, a 200-seat poker room and more than a dozen playing tables, employing around 100 staff.

Ms Gibbons said: "This is already a successful casino but I want to get our name out there, put more events on and make it even more of a success.

"We want to brand it more as a night out rather than a place to gamble.

"There is something for everyone here. Many casinos have stuck to the gambling culture but this is more of an entertainment venue than anything.

"I want to make sure it stays that way and bring in more people who may still think of G-Casino as a place where people have a flutter. It's much more than that."

The Government's relaxation of the gambling laws has allowed casinos to market themselves to a wider audience and G-Casino has cashed in on the opportunity.

Ms Gibbons added: "The industry is growing. Relaxing the laws has helped casinos gain more business and this will continue to happen.

"The G-Casino offers more than just gambling.

"I would like to think it offers an experience and I want to help it more as manager of Blackpool's biggest casino."
