A move to larger, new office premises has paid dividends for a Fylde IT support firm, as it has won a brace of new contracts from neighbouring companies.

Smart IT recently moved its headquarters to Progress Business Park in Kirkham to cater for a surge in new business and take residence next to one of its major clients, Inspired Energy plc.

Two Kirkham businesses were in touch with the Smart IT team within weeks of the move, signing up to upgrade and improve existing IT systems to support their continued growth.

Steeleson Engineering, which designs prototype exhaust systems for clients such as Bentley, Jaguar and Land Rover, had some very specific IT requirements.

“We needed to set up a server, link our computer network and improve our capability to transfer big files,” said managing director Andy Steele.

“We got in touch with Smart IT as soon as we saw their signage going up. Having discussed our requirements, their team was quick to get to work and implement new systems and IT security procedures in no time at all. And any upgrades we need can now be done remotely.” As well as putting in a new server, updating email systems and backing up security and cloud based storage facilities, Smart IT also installed a new file transfer application which allows for a more efficient transfer of large computer aided design drawings for the modelling of components from offsite project engineers.

These are important elements in the company’s manufacture of bespoke engineering assemblies for the automotive, aerospace, power generation and nuclear and gas industries.

Meanwhile, PolyCover Ltd, a manufacturer of polythene bags, sheets and covers, approached Smart IT to set up a more scalable, modern IT system network to improve its business processes. This included a new server, back up support and cloud based Office 365 email functionality.

Smart IT director Pauline Bullen said: “We work with clients across Lancashire, the North West and the UK but it’s always a pleasure to win new business on the doorstep. Both companies had a similar need for immediate upgrades in IT equipment. We hope this will be the beginning of two fruitful and long lasting business relationships.”
