The future of an empty shopping precinct looks set to be revealed soon – after a national retail chain began advertising jobs on its website.

Discount retailer Home Bargains has more than 280 stores around the country and is now accepting applications for three positions in a new Poulton store at Market Hall.

Although Home Bargains and the Market Hall’s landlord Dransfield Properties Limited is refusing to confirm the site’s future, the roles of a store manger, supervisor and assistant manager, have all been advertised.

And one community leader has today backed the potential arrival of the chain.

Roger Critchley, chairman of Poulton Partnership, said: “Home Bargains is a national store which will attract people into the town and hopefully make local traders up their game.”

Traders with shops at Market Hall were told in January they would have to leave the precinct by July as Dransfield were not renewing their lease. It left many traders devastated – some had been at the site for more than 20 years.

At the time, the decision not to renew the lease followed an announcement the company had scrapped plans to convert the current building into a supermarket and build a new centre to re-home traders. Today, a spokeswoman for Dransfield Properties Ltd said: “We’re not in a position to comment about any future tenant of the Market Hall building at this stage.”
