A digital wall featuring tweets and pictures from Blackpool people is the latest attempt to show the sunny side of the town as a place to do business.
Lancashire -based online promotions firm DigitalGuys, working with advertising agency MonsterMedia, are to launch their #LoveBPL campaign next Thursday.
The aim is to use social media and three hi-tech digital screens in town to put the spotlight on the resort.
Joanna Kay, from DigitalGuys, said that with people posting pictures and tweets right on to the main billboard screen at North Pier about what they love about living and working in Blackpool it would generate heavy traffic on the Twitter-sphere. People taking part have a chance of winning prizes from the likes of the Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle, Blackpool Zoo and Merlin, who are backing the drive.
She said: “Blackpool is great and so much more than a summer season resort. But just talking to people in London and elsewhere too many people think it is all rock and donkeys. We want to raise awareness of everything else that goes on here from the people that live and work here. Blackpool has got the £220m Central Business District development, and all the culture and entertainments to offer.”
She said that by raising awareness the potential for investment in the town could be increased.
“Our first blog about Blackpool had more than 300 shares all over the world, social media is global, and so we want everybody to join in the LoveBPl campaign next week.
“People will be able to tweet and Instagram to the North Pier screen so for three weeks we will have a positive wave of loveliness about Blackpool. Companies and individuals from all over the world have seen our blog and lots of people are talking about it.
“The place we live and work is a brand so, as a community, let’s show that Blackpool is vibrant, exciting, cutting edge and successful.”
