A ENTERPRISING couple has scored a new contract with Blackpool Football Club.
After years working in the snack food industry, John and Sue Ferguson decided to take the plunge and set up their own business.
Now the couple, from Stanah, have kick-started their firm, J and S Supplies, with a signing with Blackpool FC to sell cheese flavoured football-shaped snacks in a tangerine packet.
Mrs Ferguson said: “We set up on our own in October.
“John has worked in the snack food industry for 30 years and I’ve worked in the industry for 15 years.
“We came up with the idea for the football snack and approached Blackpool FC. They went with it – we’re really pleased.”
Officials at the club were so impressed with the couple’s prototype, they struck up a partnership to make the snacks an officially licensed club product.
Richard Wild, Blackpool FC head of retail, said: “In 18 years of working within the football industry I have been offered all sorts of weird and wonderful products.
“However, when I met John and Sue they showed me something I had never seen before and just as importantly a product I could genuinely see selling.
“We tweaked a few aspects of the packaging to incorporate the club crest but in the end it was easy to reach an agreement and ultimately put the product to market.”
Blackpool FC Cheesy Footballs were manufactured in Accrington earlier this month and have now gone on sale in The Club Shop and around the catering kiosks at the ground.
Shops across the Fylde coast are also being approached to stock the snack.
Mrs Ferguson added: “We’re avid Blackpool fans so it’s great to see the snacks being sold at the ground and in the shop.”
