Proposals to use a former hospital site as a car park mainly for council workers for a period of five years have been approved.

Planners have given permission for the former Devonshire Road Hospital site on Devonshire Road, Blackpool, to be resurfaced.

New lighting columns will also be installed and a new pedestrian access will be created to Talbot Road.

There will be 273 spaces and the aim is for the site to be used by staff who are moving into the council offices which have been built as part of the new Central Business District.

Planners approved the scheme using their delegated powers.

A report says: “It is noted the facility would meet identified long-stay parking needs.

“As such, the parking provision is considered to be acceptable.”

Surrounding boundary walls and vegetation will be retained, and the car park would be available for use seven days a week from 6.30am until 7.30pm.
