Competition is all in the family
A HUSBAND and wife team from the Fylde have gone head-to-head on the business front.
John and Sue Crompton have taken on franchises which design and operate websites for small and medium sized companies across the coast.
So far, they have taken on dozens of briefs – many across the Fylde – and help them embrace the digital era.
But the rivalry between the two has meant that it's a race to get the best businesses on the coast.
The couple, from Lytham, have invested in Orca websites, a national franchise operation which designs, builds and maintains websites for new companies.
John, a former business development manager, runs the Lytham side of the operation, while Sue works out of Blackpool.
He said: "We have both wanted to run our own businesses for some time now and I particularly wanted a more home-based work environment.
"When we heard about Orca, both Sue and I could see the huge potential for helping companies use the internet to benefit their businesses."
One of the local companies which has seen a major boost in business is Chu's Oriental Cuisine on Church Road in Lytham.
Jennifer Chu said: "I'd already had experience of websites through our Blackpool restaurant and it is something you know needs to be done and done well, but you're busy running the business and looking after your customers.
"With John, we were able to do just that and leave the site to him. It was up in no time and has already brought in new and repeat business."
Former hairdresser Sue said many Fylde firms are seeing the benefits of having their own websites.
She said: "Business owners I'm speaking to are gobsmacked at the quality of the sites we're creating for them."
