Beer lovers will be raising a glass after a pub company announced a £250,000 investment in a new bar in South Shore.
Ma Kelly’s has started work to convert a former furniture store on Lytham Road into its fourth cabaret bar in the resort.
Blackpool Council granted a licence for the venue, which is adjacent to The Auctioneer Wetherspoons pub, following a hearing this week.
It is hoped the nightspot, to be called Ma Kelly’s South, will open by the end of this month.
Michael Sugden, a director of Ma Kelly’s, said: “We have always wanted to open a venue in South Shore and have been looking for the right site.
“It is a big investment for this part of Lytham Road and we have already started work on the conversion. We are planning to open by the end of the month.
“We’re very excited about this new project, which also received planning permission last week.
“It will operate along similar lines to the Ma Kelly’s at The Station on Dickson Road.”
The Ma Kelly’s group already operates bars on Foxhall Road, Dickson Road and Chapel Street.
Last year it made a bid to buy the Layton Institute but missed out when the venue was re-opened.
Meanwhile, plans for a £1m overhaul of the former Music Hall Tavern on Church Street to create a Champs sports bar, remain on hold due to structural issues with the building.
