A FYLDE business is celebrating its first birthday - with a double award win.
Mazzola Hair of Woodlands Road, Ansdell, scooped the awards at the Blackpool and The Fylde College Hair and Beauty Awards.
The salon, opened by Marcella Mazzola has grown beyond all her expectations in just 12 months.
Marcella, 29, who has worked in the hair industry in the Lytham area for 11 years said it had been a whirlwind.
She said: “I went self employed about five years ago knowing that I wanted eventually to have my own salon when I was ready.
“I was so pleased when I found this salon. The location and size were just what I wanted. I actually thought that it would be a couple of years of me working solo but I had brought my clients with me and it just got busier from there so quickly. Michelle O’Hanlon has been my helper from the start but I had to take on more help, so my friend Fran Derby came in as a stylist.
“We then took on an apprentice Olivia Gregson.”
Marcella said things are continuing to be busy and she is thinking of taking on another apprentice. But they will have to be good, since Olivia won in the Apprentice of the Year category at the Blackpool and The Fylde College Hair and Beauty Awards this year. And Marcella won Ambassador of the Year – the award for employers. Marcella added: “We did not expect to win but we are both quite competitive and want to be the best we can, so we were overjoyed.”
