Business chiefs across the Fylde coast today hailed the arrival of superfast broadband, predicting a major boost for firms.
More than 14,000 homes in Blackpool and Lytham have been linked up to the high speed revolution by BT in a move which commerce chiefs say will boost trade and the local economy.
Robert Silverwood, chairman of Lytham Chamber of Trade, says it could bring more business to the town.
He said: “It will be great when an office space is occupied because they know broadband is up to scratch.
“There’s nothing worse than being able to connect as fast as you want.
“It could be an offer that a landlord could give to a prospective tenant, while for homes it’s great for domestic use.”
The 7,100 properties and businesses in Blackpool and 7,300 in Lytham will shortly be followed by a connection in Garstang and Kirkham as part of a multi-billion pound project.
Coun Chris Maughan, cabinet member for technology at Blackpool Council, added: “As well as ensuring an excellent service for consumers, this development also has the potential to have a significant economic impact.”
