A painting contractor who helped bring to life the new Wallace and Gromit’s Thrill-o-Matic ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been presented with a top industry award.
Chris Rushworth of Rushworth Painting Contractors NW Ltd was presented with the Judges’ Special Award of Excellence at the Painting and Decorating Association’s (PDA) 26th annual Premier Trophy Awards.
Poulton-based Chris originally went to Plasterers’ Hall in London to receive a Very Highly Commended Certificate for work at Cliffs Hotel, Blackpool during the awards luncheon and was surprised as the ceremony drew to a close, when he was announced as the winner of the PDA’s highest accolade.
He said: “It is a massive, massive achievement. I wasn’t expecting it at all.
“When the judges came out to look at the project they seemed impressed with the complexity of the work and how well it had all gone from start to finish thanks to our work with the team at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
“It is a great achievement to win this award – for a small local business to win this kind of recognition in the industry is a real honour.”
The PDA is the largest trade body for painters and decorators in the UK and the Judges’ Special Award of Excellence is presented annually to an individual or contractor who ‘truly demonstrates all the qualities necessary for excellence in quality of work, customer service and health and safety.’
Chief Executive of the PDA, Neil Ogilvie, said: “This year has seen a record number of entries into the Premier Trophy Awards, so for Chris to have been selected as the winner of the Judges’ Special Award of Excellence is a real reflection of his talent, skill and professionalism.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach Managing Director, Amanda Thompson OBE, said: “I would like to offer congratulations to Chris and his team as we are delighted with Wallace & Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic.
“It has become a well-loved ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
“A lot of hard work has gone into making it fun for all the family.”
