Owners invest to improve hotel
Blackpool’s Chequers Plaza is booking holidaymakers again after Oxford Limited signed a deal to take over the Queens Promenade hotel.
It now hopes to boost trade through entertainment in its function suite and catch the eye of customers after undergoing a revamp since closing in December last year.
Robert Evans, general manger of the Blackpool hotel, has overseen the refurbishments and upgrades.
He said: “This is now a better class of hotel and a lot better than what it was.
“We have spent a lot of money and are moving forward in the hope of becoming one of the best hotels on the front.
“We have employed 12 new members of staff and are improving what didn’t work before.”
The hotel is aiming to make a good first impression and has hired a chef from the five-star Royal Jersey Hotel, while Mr Evans says the official opening on Saturday night is set to be a grand affair with a champagne reception.
Natalie Wyatt, managing director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “We are working with The Chequers Plaza and are helping them regain their national accreditation status.
“The investment made so far is an extremely positive move for the resort as it would result in another sizeable establishment of quality which clearly helps attract new visitors while maintaining very strong support from people who visit us time and time again.”
