New star rating as family takes grip

The owners and management of the Langdales Hotel and Leisure Club, on Clifton Drive North, were delighted to hear they were just two marks away from four-star status following the rating by the English Tourist Board.

Manager Leanne Young said: “We’re over the moon with the rating and that’s where we want to be.

“It was never a three-star before, and we’ve achieved the rating with our first hotel.”

The business is now looking to offer more services to nearby residents.

Mrs Young added: “We do have swimming lessons, we are looking at parent and baby or toddler sessions in the pool, and play sessions where parents and grandparents can come in and spend time with their little ones.

“And in the ballroom we are looking at more business functions, and perhaps something for retirees.”

The 54-bed property now extends across five original Porritt properties opposite Ashton Gardens.

Owners Magdalene and Terry Young have ploughed their money not only into physical improvements at the hotel – but also into staff.

Daughter-in-law Leanne added: “We want our staff to get qualifications and some are studying for GCSEs. We’re also supporting our handyman through college, as he wants to be a chef. And we support St Annes charity Ormerod and employ two of its users.”
