A CARAVAN park has been given a boost after a top darts player decided to make it his home.
The owners of Marton Mere Holiday Park were delighted when world number one Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor and number three James Wade stayed on the site during the recent Matchplay Darts Tournament held at the Winter Gardens.
But they were even more excited when James Wade decided he liked the Mythop Road Haven Holiday park so much he wanted to buy one of the homes on the site.
Sales manager Clive Kennedy said it was a great advert for Blackpool.
He said: “The first we knew about the players being on the site was when James made inquiries about purchasing a caravan.
“It was great, he had really enjoyed his stay and was looking to purchase one to rent out while he was away and live in while competing in the north.
“It was a really good plug for Blackpool having such well known sportsmen staying here.
“We had Sky Sports down interviewing both James and Phil in one of our luxury lodges.
“And Phil has agreed to put a link to our website on his web page and will be coming back next year.
“We are also in discussions about sponsoring the players and considering they compete all over the world it would be good exposure.”
Mr Kennedy said the holiday park usually sell between 40 and 60 caravans a year to holidaymakers.
He added: “It is one of the best ways to advertise really because we’re a working man’s site.
“But when people come they see how much they get for the money and how affordable it actually is.
“James had a great time on the golf range and he took his family down to the Mere to feed the ducks.
“They both left happy, Phil with a severe hangover.”
The Winter Gardens competition saw Taylor win his 12th World Matchplay title with an 18-8 victory over Wade.
Prices for a Haven holiday home range from £15,000 to around £100,000, and there are 34 parks in the UK to choose from. Properties come with fully-fitted kitchens, spacious lounge and dining areas.
Facilities include an all weather multi sports court, adventure golf, bike hire and soft play area.
