FAKE tan, make-up, manicured nails and bikinis.

You might think from that description and the image of girls hurriedly getting ready backstage, nervously awaiting their moment in the spotlight, we are talking about Miss World.

Welcome to the world of female body-building.

And Blackpool mum Jackie Hague has just scooped a top North West title at the UKBFF regional championships in Warrington, and now the 34-year-old has qualified for the British finals in October, to be held at Manchester’s Trafford Centre.

She impressed the judges in the Miss Physique Class category in what was her first competition.

Jackie, who lives in North Shore, has been body-building for two years.

She had always been interested in fitness and sport, but soon found herself addicted to lifting weights.

Jackie, who trains regularly at Body Masters Gym, on Selbourne Road, said: “It’s really addictive. And it really spurs you on when you see your progress, you see yourself getting stronger and the transformation in your body.

“It’s how I met my husband, because he is into training too.

“It was Jill at the gym who suggested I start competing, but at first I didn’t feel ready.

“This year I felt it was worth a shot, so I entered the competition. It was an amazing experience.

“Everyone was so friendly and it was great to meet all the other women and talk to them.

“I was really pleased when I won.

“And doing the competition meant my training had a focus, that I had something to aim for.

“It makes you keep going and keep pushing, because you know you’re going to be standing up there.

“I am just having a chilled week, where I relax a little bit now before I start training for the finals.”

Jill Christodoulou, who runs Body Masters, said she was really proud of Jackie.

She said: “This is a fantastic achievement as Jackie had never even been to watch a competition, let alone compete in one. So to win this and get through to the finals is amazing.”
