A muscle man with a heck of a tan is standing proud as reigning British bodybuilding champion.

Scott Heeley, 28, was crowned number one novice ahead of hundreds of other bodybuilders from across the UK at the Physical Culture Association championships in Birmingham on Sunday.

The stepfather-of-one, who lives on Holts Lane in Poulton, was first bitten by the bodybuilding bug six years ago. He took on an intense training regime to prepare for the competition.

He said: “I train my chest, my back, my biceps, my triceps, quads, hamstrings, calves and lower back. With the cardio I do as well I’m in the gym for at least two hours a night, six days a week.

“It does get exhausting but I just think about what I want to achieve and the success I want for myself.

“My diet consists of meat and carbs like potatoes and vegetables with supplements like protein, BCAAs and glutamines.

“I eat between six and eight meals a day and drink four litres of water. I consume around 4,000 or 5,000 calories every day.

“I’m a lean mean fighting machine!”

Scott, who works as a drainage engineer when he’s not pumping weights in the gym, now qualifies to represent Great Britain in the world bodybuilding championships in Kuwait next year.

There he will compete against award-winning bodybuilders from all over the globe, with expert judges comparing muscle size, definition and symmetry.

He said: “It’s all about your muscles and how they look on your body. You can’t have one arm bigger than the other - everything has to be in proportion.

“All the judges’ feedback that I’ve ever gotten is that I have very good symmetry and that’s why I’ve done so well.

“I like to think I’m in with a chance at the world championships. I’ve got 12 months to prepare for that so I’m going to make sure I gain more size to make it a definite win.”
